I looked through the help and instructions....but I didn't see anything about it....does Radar help shoot down Missile attacks or jus identify units in it's range....if the ladder then it's not a good buy as the units are practically on top of you anyway when they pick them up...
But perhaps Im missing something else they provide

They allow you about 1 turn's worth of warning on incoming ships. If you can afford it, line your coasts and check it everyday. If you are not worried about invasion, then don't worry about it. They do nothing to enhance attacks offensively nor defensively.

On larger maps where there is more land to watch and more $ due to more land, they're worth it to not have to manually scan every inch every day. In the smaller maps, they're pretty expensive.
